KC Newbie here

Postby Sunny131 » Fri 16 Feb 2018 4:06 pm

Hello,

This is Sunny from India. Been reading this forum and thought about joining this family to share everyone’s experiences regarding KC including myself.

My first tryst with KC came in the year 2011 when I was 26 years old , when the local optometrist couldn’t prescribe nor understand why my left eye wasn’t having corrected vision with any combination of spectacles. Upon further inquiry I landed at a eye-specialist who did the Pentacam test and confirmed the KC. I have always had excellent vision up until my teens so being diagnosed with something like KC did indeed come as a wild shock which influenced me mentally as well. I was prescribed C3R procedure to “arrest” further degradation and I underwent it. I had no idea what it was, what to expect from it and what the outcome would be.

6 months after the C3R, my vision had shown no improvement and there was some “corneal haze”. I started to make do with my glasses and the “ghosting” “, “shadows” started to become a daily aspect of my life and I started to live with it. This carried on for years until the shadows started overpowering my entire vision and I again reluctantly landed up at a eye-specialist.

Mini scleral lenses were prescribed and the experience with them is the topic for another day but it’s a step in the right direction somewhat.

Overall from my experience:

Educate yourself before undertaking any corrective procedure. Its a must. Know all the pros and cons before you div into it.

Welcome! Everybody has a different experience and thankfully my CXL worked but I know how bad the degradation in vision feels. My job involves a lot of driving and losing that became a genuine fear (I love my job). I've been given a hybrid lens for my left eye but I'll need to get used to it before anything.

Hopefully the lenses work for you.
