Does it get better with time? I found with RGPs my vision would be horrible for an hour or two then get slightly better...

If i keep wearing my lens its like that everytime i take them out.

If i stop using the lens it takes a few days to go back to normal

Hi Kieran,

It's good to hear that piggy backing is providing comfortable contact lens wear for you.

It could be that you're experiencing spectacle blur. It's a common problem when people switch between contact lenses and glasses. The problem is greater with hard lenses than RGPs or soft lenses. I believe it's caused by the slight pressure on the corneas and the slight reduction in oxygen caused by contact lens wear. It's one of the reasons people have to leave their lenses out before going for laser surgery as the corneas have to demould from the effects of contact lens wear.

As you are now piggybacking your RGPs there will be slightly less oxygen getting to the corneas than with the RGP by itself. However with modern materials the reduction in oxygen is probably minimal.

If you are worried do mention the problem when you go for your check-up, as only someone examining your eyes will be able to tell whether or not it is a problem.

Hi Lia

I Don't think its spectacle blur - it feels like the double layer of lens are suffocating my eyes, I have now stopped using the soft lens and after 4 days the haze has disappeared. I never get it with just RGP's.

Thanks

It's interesting that you say it's "suffocating" your eyes. Perhaps the RGP is sticking to the soft lens rather than moving slightly with each blink. It may be a different soft lens is required. I tried three different soft lenses before the optometrists were happy with my piggyback fit. Hopefully a different soft lens will solve the problem.

Hi,

It could be your soft lens? I used night and day but they used to dry out too much and my RGP would be stuck to it. After an optom check up I use dailies and get on much better. I do still have it occasionally when I over-wear my lenses but it isn't as bad and will resolve itself in a few hours.

Hoping you get it sorted soon, Claire Xx
