Hello, I'm looking for advice

Postby lucyhkell » Wed 05 Sep 2012 4:57 pm

Hi everyone!

I'm a 19 year-old KC sufferer from Port Talbot and I stumbled across this group while researching CXL treatment following a consultation with Mr V Kumar at Bridgend Eye Unit - I was wondering if anyone would be able to share their experiences of the CXL treatment, and if it has been effective in halting the progression of your KC? I am looking to halt progression rather than improve vision in my right eye (the better of the two - I can only consider transplant on the left eye), but any improvement would obviously be a brilliant outcome!

Thanks!

Hi,

I had CXL treatment done on my left eye (my best eye) 1 month ago, my left eye was progressing quite fast so moorfields decided to carry out this procedure.. treatment was completely harmless no pain during the surgery, however after this for the first 2-3 days i was in quite a bit of pain and discomfort, then for a good couple of weeks i was very light sensitive (i am still a bit now) and my vision was also very blury for couple of weeks, i couldnt do much except to rest... but now i think my left eye is settling down a little as i got my contact lens back in now after 4 weeks post up...i believe my vision in my left eye has also slightly improved, not much though.

overall i think you should go for it, it helps to stop/slow down the progression..i wish i could do the same treatment for my right eye but i cant as the cornea is too thin, anyway you will require at least 4-5 days rest after the treatment..so good luck :)

p.s In 2 months time i am due an hospital appointment where they will check to see if the progression has slowed down or not..so i cannot answer that at the moment

Good luck man, I am due an appointment in 2 months to see if I need a CxL, it looks like I well, I have started to decrease in the last 6 months but they want to compare a full year before they move me on. I have done a lot of research and overall it seems to be a good Operation that carries minimum risk. It even has a chance of improving your vision, all the best wishes.

I had my right eye CXL 14 months ago. It has halted the progression and has caused the cone to flatten so I have some improvement in vision.

It was not a nice experience at the time and was sore for a few days but I do not regret it at all. Worth every penny in my opinion

Good luck
