Silly questions about contacts

Postby liam82 » Sun 26 Jun 2011 4:35 pm

Hello hello.

Well, i finally got fitted for an rgp and now have to wear it in.

Now, the lady was very nice and all..but was kind of in a hurry so glossed over all the details.

So was wondering if people on here could help?

With the total care soloution stuff, do you pour it down the sink every day, and then replace it with new soloution?
The bottle they gave me was only little, and will probably last for little more than a week!

Is the soloution easy to find in shops?

Silly questions i know, but any help would be appreciated!

Liam:)

Hi Liam

You should replace the solution every day. Make sure you keep your case clean as well. Clean everything with saline solution and leave the case to dry in the air. Never use tap water as it has all sorts of nasties in it. The solutions are readily available in the major chemist and super markets. I use a super markets own brand ( I suggest you stick with Total for a while). If you do swap brands make sure you get the ones for RGP as there are different solutions for soft lenses.

Good luck
Ian

I buy my 'total care' online.

Yes, always change the solution.

Aha, awesome i'll order from there :)

When you wet the lens, are you meant to pour a drop or 2 in the lens then put it in your eye?

Also, this is my 3rd day wearing it, 1 hour on saturday, 2 hours on sunday and 3 hours today....but for the first 5 minutes or so my visions quite clear in my left eye through it...but then it starts to blur a little. Is that natural whilst getting used to it?

I usually fill the little crucible with fluid and enjoy the cool wetness when it goes onto my eye. :)

It may be that you are not blinking properly, and that your tear film is building up on the lens. Make sure that you close your eye properly when you blink when my lens gets a little blurry I make a series of exaggerated 'blinks' to make sure that my eyelid gives my lens a proper wipe.

Thanks for the tip :)

Its definitely a little blurry, and im wondering if maybe the lens isnt right for my eye. It was originally fitted several months ago, i just never wore it as I got crosslinking done straight after. It feels like its sort of scraping/scratching my eye.

It could just be my eye adapting to the contact though. Maybe im expecting it to be sharp and clear from the off, but it takes time to get used to it?

I am incredibly impatient.

This is day 4, so its 4 hours today.

Considering asking about intacs at my follow up next week

Can i just check im doing this right.

When I put my lens in, I take it out of the container, put a bit of the soloution in to wet it, then plonk it in my eye.

Then when I take it out, I put some of the cleaner on it, rub it abit, then put some saline soloution on to rinse, then back into the container which has fresh soloution in it?

Hi Liam,
If this is a lens you got before the crosslinking, it could well now not be the right prescription or the right fit. So do get it checked out.
All the best
Anne

Well, on friday Iwent back to the hospital to check on how id been getting on with the lens. And because I hadnt worn it at all, the optometrist looked at it quickly and said to just keep trying with this one and if its wrong, they'll change it in a couple of months when I go back.

So im hoping its just taking my eye some time to adjust.
