Hi guys, i hope you are well.
I have been prescribed a pill called dianette and i have been reading the patient info leaflet and noticed that one of the known side effects is : 'Steepening of corneal curvature which may make contact lenses uncomfortable'. I have phoned a few hospitals but im not having much luck as to whether it may cause me problems. My eyes are bad enough as it is what with a graft and sclerals i just dont want any side effetcs from it!

If any of you girls have taken it before or anyone knows much about please let me know

Thanks so much

Hi. Haven't ever taken the stuff but have at lest heard of it.
It's a "lose-dose" form of The Pill, if I remember rightly? - more often used for those problems that being ont he pill can help, without the full strength or full of the full-scale contraceptives? - I think someone suggested I might like to try it, without realisng that for me the issue was a non-problem.
I've heard it reported that being on medication involving replacement female hormones, or one type or another, can make eyes more itchy and wearing contact lenses harder.
Other people are on the pill, or the contraceptive implants, or other related meds, and never have any problems.
From what I've heard of this, the people who have had problems have found they go away when they've stopped taking the hormone meds. IIRR - I'm not a medic.
Is there an info/advice line number or address at the bottom of the patient info leaflets? WOuld it be possible to ring them and ask about this?
Good luck? - I hope the eyes don't take exception to the dianette and it does the job for whatever it as prescribed for.
Rosemary

Hello,
Flicking through the threads I saw this. (wasting time at work )
I have pm'd you sky.
I started Dianette when I was 18, was diagnosed with KC when I was 19. and in both eyes 4 years ago. Been off it now for 2 years, and I turn 30 on Monday.
I never even new it was a side affect maybe my KC has nothing to do with the pill.. no one else in my family has KC, but maybe it does..
interesting....

My question would be is the steepening due to thinning of the cornea which is what KC is?

During clinical trials any side affects have to be reported, even if one patient in a thousand shows this. Side effects are only what might happen rather than what will happen. Any symptoms you may get could only be increased astigmatism rather than an irrecgular cornea thet KC results in.

It is probably a good idea to contact is the drug manufacturer, their customer help line will be on the patient information leaflet and discuss any concerns with your GP.
