cornea keritomy or however its spelt lol

Postby cherishu2 » Wed 09 Dec 2009 2:14 pm

I had my cornea transplant 2 yrs ago. 3 weeks ago i had keratomy (sp) done. Where they cut slits in the cornea.
My right eye is still blind as no op on that yet.
Anyway in the operated eye the vision fluctuates so much. By evening i have no sight, its like the room is full of steam and i cant see through it.So im back to my white stick at times.
Its so frustrating.
Is this normal healing????
mum to 7. Its a long story lol. cornea graft oct 19 2007.
Son with KC too
registerd blind 17th May 2007

Oh, in your place I'd be asking for a consultation with my ophthalmologist to ask exactly that question. I wouldn't be expecting the effect you describe after a transplant, but I have no knowledge of keratotomy.

Do let us know what your ophthalmologist says.

Wise words from Andrew, as always! Do contact the clinic and tell them what you're experiencing. Or go to casualty if you can't be seen quickly. I learnt early on in my experience of grafts that it was always better to be safe than sorry - hopefully you'll be reassured, but if there is a problem then it's better to get it fixed asap. Sorry, I don't have any experience of keratotomy either. All the best
Anne

This is eacatly how I would describe oedema which I sometimes got with over wearing of lenses and was due to the endothelium (inner most layer of the cornea) becoming water logged. In your case I would go to eye casualty and if it only happens in the evening, go when you have this steaming affect. Eye casualty might be closed but that is no problem, go to the main casualty and they will call the ophthalmologist who will be on call so they can see exactly what the problem is.

As Anne says, play it safe.
Gareth
