Hi all

As Treasurer, I would encourage any form of activity that raises funds for the Keratoconus Group, a registered charity in England and Wales and in Scotland, provided that it is within the law.

Some fundraising activities are invariably more risky than others e.g. sponsored runs / cycle rides / parachute jumps / cake eating (?!) and the point to make here is that you undertake the said activity at your own risk.

The donate button on our homepage contains guidance on how individuals can donate to the Keratoconus Group. As we are a registered charity, we can claim back a further 28% of the value of your donation from the taxman, provided that you are a UK taxpayer, and at no extra cost to you.

Let me know if there is any further information that you require.

Regards

I seem to remember that a wee while ago the group had Christmas cards printed ( the ones that I handed out were well received by folk)

Is there any chance of getting more done in the future (Christmas 2010)?

Hi Greig

Hope you're well and thank you for your continued support.

We last ordered Xmas cards in November 1998. They cost £441 to produce and sales totalled £764 over the next two years, so the net income from this activity was £323. I feel that it would be a more effective use of our resources to try to raise this kind of amount in donations, which are eligible for Gift Aid, unlike sale proceeds which are not. The main purpose of investing in goods like Xmas cards, T-Shirts, mugs etc would be to promote the Group and its website - they do not generate that much income after cost.

Regards

Matt

Matt, thanks for the reply.

I wasnt aware that Christmas Cards or other promo goods dont raise that much money after expenses have been taken into account.

I totally agree that donations is the most effective way of raising money. We have to take advantage of gift aid as much as we can.

Cheers

Greig

Matt,

Thanks for the reply! I did ask about Christmas cards at our last meeting and was told that it had been done before but didn't raise any funds. Shame as I would have bought some!

So have gone on-line and bought MS cards again this year. Sad to say I don't give any regular donations to them after having so much needed information and free medication, so by buying cards supporting them I feel better. :D

Thanks again, love Claire X x X

Xmas cards is something we could look at in 2010, funds permitting.

And if anyone can raise £323 before Xmas they will certainly be getting a Xmas card from the Treasurer!

Matt

PS - Greig: I've claimed Gift Aid on 1 in 2 donations received by the Group since April 2000. In cash terms this equates to £3,345.
