Hey, well my cold got worse over the weekend but I do believe I'm on the up today. Should be close to ideal conditions for Thursday, though I'm still anxious about the damn cough.

Lucy - He's back at work tomorrow so I'm going to try and get some reassurance over the phone. I was told during my pre op assesement that there are 2 of us having a transplant on the same day - should be interesting. I did get on pretty well with consultant the last time we met, which was when we discussed the operation 6 odd months ago but I didn't ask him many questions. Loving your blog, it's definitely helping me, thanks... though it's a bit too pink for me

Rosemary - May I ask how long ago you had your graft done? I shall go to the docs tomorrow to hand in a repeat prescription, will try and get his recommendations on the cold/cough. I'm determined to go through with the graft now especially after late doubts. If it is postponed, I hope it doesn't take months of waiting.

Gareth - Those old Spectrums and what not weren't pleasant to the eye at all, kinda big as well weren't they? Saying that though, they were built to last, which is more than you can say about some of todays computers which are like twigs!

Spectrum was quite small, less than A4 piper area, found it at the weekend and it still works

Ideal if you have KC as it goes through the TV so got a huge wide screen to see everything even if you have no lenses in. Games don't have much detail so you don't loose too much information playing hte games.

Good to hear your feeling better, I'm coming down with a cold now! Dong you a favour taking your coll away from you so you can have the op

All the best.
Gareth

My graft was 30th January last year - so a year ago this week. Wednesday by days, Friday by numbers.

Hi Red eye

I hope your cold is better for Thursday. Glad you like my blog, it is a bit pink but then I am a girly girl :D

Do you feel that you are ready to go for it? Hopefully tomorrow will reassure you. My graft is going well and my GP was happy with it today which is good.

Let us know how you get on

Lucy x

Your support has been great all, much appreciated :)

Just an update for you... feel free to have a giggle

My consultant rang me this morning to my surprise, he said it was best for me to come in and see him in the afternoon. I indeed proceeded to meet, hes done over 100 corneal transplants, some successful, others not. We had a 20 min chat, towards the end I told him about a little pain I've been getting in my left eye (the good one) whilst having a lens in and blinking... to cut a long story short, I found out that BOTH my eyes are actually effected with KC, not just the one! This was clearly documented on my file and also when he checked my left eye, both eyes were diagnosed at the same time.

I'm known for my ability to not pay enough attention to things! Also 90% of my appointments to date have all been to deal with my right eye... Well those are my excuses for not knowing/forgetting. Not too bothered about my left eye, yes I get pain now and again but I don't feel the KC is getting worse. I'm judging that by still using the same strength lens (if thats what you call it?) for many years. Anyhow, as with the way KC usually works, one eye is worse than the other. Consultant also stated my cold wasn't an issue, its basically gone and by Thursdays I'll be fine. He's given me his email address and I'll ask for his number incase I need it post surgery.

Hands up if you think I'm a dumbass :P

red-eye, my hand did not go up; we all have a tendency to hear only part of what we are told, especially if the news is bad.

As you say, it is very common for keratoconus to develop faster in one eye than the other; in your case the right eye gave you the trouble and the left eye remained relatively stable.

All the best tomorrow.

Good luck tomorrow red-eye. I had mine 1 year ago, with no complications and excellent results. remember to rest. don't commit to anything for 2 weeks (although you may feel better sooner). let us know how it goes.

Good luck otmorrow, red-eye.
From my experience, I'm sure you have one prime important factor on your side - you get on well with your consultant.
My graft was a year ago today - I'm sure yours will go just fine and nothing likeme.
Do keep us posted when you can get back on - but don't hurry; take it as easy as you need.
