hi im a new member and this is my first post hope im posting in the right place haha
last week i was diagnosed with KC.
my consultant i was seeing doesnt know much about it but im waiting to see my specialist.
at the preasant moment im wearing tinted glasses, which quite frankly are doing my head in because they dont do much for me
after 6months.
i am finding my right eye which is mostly affected is soo sore and streaming with tears and itchy, its trying not to itch it thats the problem.
i use to itch it when my allergies were affecting it too. i got allergy tabs to stop itching and eye drops because the eye feels dry.
i was wondering if this is a symptom or my allergies irritating it...
im wondering this as contacts will be worse for it i should think..
anyway any advice would be welcome
thanx

Re: i have sore eyes
Hi Caragh-Lyn, and welcome - welcome to the forum, and to the ranks of the world's KCers. Commiserations of being diagnosed.
Glasses that rapidly become not much use are, sadly, a feature of many of us finding out about that KC thing..... happened to me, a few years ago now.
The itchy eyes are, unfortunately, something that affect several of us too - we seem, as a group, to be beset by an above-average number of allergies (though in my case, they set off my asthma rather than make my skin or eyes itch ... normally).
I hope you get it sorted out - some people on here have found the right combination of drops or, sometimes, diet change to quiet the itch eyes down and even wear lenses regularly.

Re: i have sore eyes
thanx rosemary for your reply..
i thought that might be the case with the soreness..
my allergies affect my sineses and asthma too so if im trying drops and tablets now i think i may try the diet as
i know i have a problem with dairy mildly but may try and cut milk and cheese out and try alternatives to see if it makes a difference to me
many thanx

Welcome to the forum
It is possible that your specialist will suggest that you try wearing contact lenses. For many people with KC, this is the estent of the treatment they will ever need.
In the meantime, your itchy eyes will make you want to rub your eye. While this does give a deal of pleasure, it is probably not the best solution to the problem of itchy eyes. A strategy that many of us use is to irrigate our eyes with something like Hypermelose or Systane or even Optrex or some other eye bath or artificial tear. I use hypermelose (you can buy all of these products either on line or over-the-counter at the pharmacy). I keep it in the fridge and when I have itchy eyes I just squirt an quantity of cool artificial tear into my eye: the effect is better than chocolate!
