Hi everyone..

Hi all,

Just a quick note to say Hi and apologies I haven't been around for some time. A recent flyer for the Leics group has kicked me back into action!

For those of you who dont know me I have KC (woohoo!) and last November I had intac rings placed in my right eye.

I guess I havent been on the site for a while because work has been really busy and also I guess my Intacs op, although on paper and through the eyes of my surgeon went brilliantly, didnt go aswell as I had hoped. It is true I can see much better through it but not to the standard I could previously with a contact lens. I also can't improve the vision given to me by the intac by glasses.

I dropped off the site before as Intacs back then (I guess still is) a new op and I didnt want to depress anyone. However, I felt with the credit crunch, the lousy summer weather and petrol at an all time high, I might be able to sneak it in without anyone noticing!

My surgeon says the eye is perfect, in fact he had loads of pictures taken to place it in a study. He also thinks it would be a mistake to have it removed.

Admittedly, going back to lenses wouldnt be the best option as my eyes were physically starting to suffer through wearing them (my body seems to be ok with keeping one lens moist, but unable to support two!!)

I had such high hopes (despite warnings) that this would be the saving of my eye but I'm only really seeing correctly out of my left eye now. My Intac'd vision varies during the day and if anything, the vision is there but the distortion is just as bad as ever.

Has anyone else hit the same problem - how did you cope?

Sorry all for the depressing bits! Hope everyone is well, big hugs!

Ed

Welcome back!

Has your surgeon ever spoken to you about the possibility of combining Intacs with something else, like CXL?

I am sorry that your hopes were not met by the outcome of this surgery, and I hope that you do find a way forward.

Yours aye

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thanks!

I'm feeling a bit happier today. Back to not letting it get me down as their isnt a lot I can do about.

Back to see my specialist next month so will ask him about CXL then - between now and seeing him I think I have some reading to do - it definitely seems to be the hot topic on here at the mo.

Welcome back Eddie, though I'm sorry to hear that Intacs haven't worked as you'd hoped. I'll do a new post about the Leicester meeting, in case there are forum members in the Leicester area who haven't received the flyer.
Anne
