WOW! I am pleased!!! NOT!

As you know i written my car off, well the insurance got back to me today, and they offered me a grand total of £108.00

When they had taken off the £700 excess and then the price of a radio there is nothing!

Most insurers look at the part ex price.

Never accept the first offer, get the local paper, autotrader etc and cut out the adverts for a similar aged car with similar miles and send that to them. The price does start to come up.

My insurers still chasing the Spanish guy that hit me, or at least I hope they are as they have not been in touch since I made a claim!

Keep pushing and you'll get a result.

I am afraid that you are learning a lesson about the commercial world the expensive way! Gareth is right, just because an offer has been made does not mean you have to accept it.

You are not trading in a car. You are seeking settlement for a car that has been written off. Send them evidence of the cost of replacing your car like-for-like and as Gareth says, the offer ought to rise.

The other thing is if you have evidence that the car was well maintained such as service records, receipts etc, make a copy and send that off to the insurers too.

All they are doing is looking at a car that has been in an accident and extrapolating back as to what the cars condition was before which may not be easy when a car has been badly damaged.

Jaybois, you may also wish to invest in a Parkers Guide from W H Smith or the like.

Obviously if the car is only worth £800 you are unlikely to get more. As Gareth says, get as much info as you can to support a higher value.

I must confess Gareth the thought did cross my mind that you were an accident veteran as Andrew says.

I am afraid to say that when I used to deal with motor claims, many many years ago, accidents involving foreign based motorists were my worst nightmare! If you were able to make contact with the third party, the insurers were likely to drag things out as long as they could.

I suspect these problems are not so bad now as the other driver's reg no. should be on a database which should enable the insurer to be traced.

Hi Michael,

I really hope that is the case as I have heard nothing from the insurers.

Need to update them on the shoulder/elbow problem. Although not severe I tried putting a lens in the old way the past couple of days and still have the pain in the joints when I put lenses in. Thought this was because I had not put lenses in this way for a while, but 1 week on I do not think that is the case. Finger started to shake at point lens was about to go in the eye. The lens must of been at an odd angle because it didn't half hurt and fortunatly I blinked the lens out. Lens is in now, but eye is starting to ache!

Go back to the doctors thursday, hope to see a more helpful GP.

Oh and the weekend before last someone loosen all the wheel nuts on my Capri while it was on display and stole one! Had to drive home carfully once they were all tightend even though one wheel only ahd three!

Got a temporary fix on that went through the MOT OK. Not worth making a claim as getting a new nut made is only just over the excess.

Only one wheel nut was stolen? How did you notice this? I would never have thought to check if the wheel nuts to a wheel were secure before driving off. Good job you did.

come to think of it I would probably have driven off even with one wheel supported by bricks!
