I'd have thought we'd have to include protein removal tabs

Neah, I'm an ex-pat Scouser, me.
(Maybe it's my accent they don't understand?)

As someone once said: I'm a blunt Scouser. I call a spade 30 points.

Getting serious: there seem to be people on this thread talking of *if* solutions *were* to be on prescription.

Well..... they are!!!
You can get contact lens solutions on prescription in this country.
Like, from Moorfields, or allegedly from your GP once Moorfields have once prescribed them as suitable,

But...... the problem is, we seem to have another post code lottery. And a quantity-per-prescription form lottery.

Well Rosemary...

You learn something new every day.. I am a professional and didn;t know that - I have never come across that .. though my usual stamping ground is up north not down south .... and its a long time since I worked in a hospital.

It doesn't surprise me as hospitals can prescribe anything they want within reason - however, as it seems most of the people here who DO attend Moorfields are also not aware of it.. could you enlighten us further? Do patients have to ask for them? Are there any criteria laid down as to who gets what? (As in qualifying eye condition etc?)

I know that in Warwickshire and the part of the west midlands I visit lens solutions are not prescribed, but that refelcts the post code lottery Rosemary highlighted.

Hi Lynn

I've attended Moorfields for 30 years and have received 3 months prescriptions each and every visit. I am most surprised to find that this is not universal.

Costco used to sell packs of Boston solutions at amazingly low prices but Boston stopped supplying them (i.e with cheap packs).

I still find I can by the saline at lower than prescription prices though.

Interesting debate this.

I `ll tell you how things may be elwhere. There are no solutions on prescription here, but a unit in the public health care cover contact lenses and specs BEFORE graft. Post op you are regarded healed from KC, and no matter how huge needs for proper refraction you will have to spend all optician-costs from your own pocket. But the strangest thing is; if you go and get your surgeon convinced you need further surgery , such as lasik, this will be covered completely, and the costs are as high as 15000nkr, say 1300 pounds.

And I remember all those salines, Boston, Bauch and Lomb (surprised they still exist) and Miraflow. In the end I think I used only saltwater. Cleaning processes late at night, the need for proper wash facilities, loosing the lens, dust between the lens and the eye. Ahhhh. You contact lens people have my greatest sympathies. And I hope you manage to get som of the meaningless costs covered.
