bonhoeffer knew that if he did the least wrong thing, he's still have to face the consequences. He'd have to suffer whether he succeeded or failed.
Similarly Arjuna would live the rest of his life with the knowledge that he had broken a strong moral imperative and killed, not just one but several of his kinsmen. the 'disemboweling; you describe not only makes the point that Arjuna had to kill, but makes the slaughter all the more gruesome.
