Keratoconus and DVLA

Hello,
I've been driving for just over 10 years. When I was learning to drive, I was told by ( I can't remember if it was the driving instructor or the optician, but it was by someone) that as long as I could pass the standard eye test before the driving test, I was fine and didn't need to declare anything. I passed my test, and have been driving ever since using contact lenses or glasses. I did read somewhere that the advice had changed though, and I needed to declare it. Then, the advice seems to have changed again, and I no longer do. The DVLA website isn't very clear either. It doesn't list Keratoconus as a condition that you have to declare, but in other parts of the website, it sounds like you do. I'm a bit confused and wondered if anyone could clarify for me?
Thank you
