Hi there

well now 2 weeks in to my RGP and they are feeling great, well they were till i rubbed my eye and one popped out in the car and after 3 hours of hunting still no lens.

can anyone tell me what is the best thing to do? have left a message for the hospital to call me, but anxious now. Can you just get one lens replaced, how long does it take, and how much does it cost?

anyone know?

thanks

Ian

Hi Keeno,
Rubbing your eye when you've got a lens in is a real no-no. But loads of us here have lost lenses for various reasons. Have you tried shining a torch round the car? If it's there, the light should sparkle off the lens and locate it. But, yes, you can get the lens replaced. It may take the hospital 2 or 3 weeks to get you another one and they'll probably charge you the standard £53 NHS charge. What a shame when you were getting on so well!
Good luck
Anne

Hi there Anne

It was more of a rub of the eye due to an itch, and yes hunted with the torch, and even hoovered it with a new bag on the hoover and nothing when i searched the bag.

think its a call to the hospital.

i am lucky that the contacts i have are identical for both eye, should i keep wearing the one, switching the eye to maintain the routines or would that cause a problem?

sorry t ask this but as you now its all new to me.

thanks
Ian

Hi Ian,
When you ring the hospital, do check whether the lenses really are identical - and that isn't just in terms of power but in terms of fit and shape. It's unusual for the fit to be exactly the same in both eyes, and if it isn't exactly the same, you'd probably be doing more harm than good by switching lenses between the eyes. But the hospital should be able to tell you what's best to do in your case.
I hope you get back on track soon!
Anne

Hi there Anne

Yes they are identical in every way, the specialist when i was at my fitting mentioned it and i did double check when i went for the collection and fitting of the lenses.

thanks

To find a lost lens:

Put somebody's old tights or stocking over the end of your vacuum cleaner.

Suck up the stoor from the place you dropped your lens (wide area: lenses can ping quite a distance)

Check the outside of the nylons: pick up lens and lean it thoroughly.

hi there Andrew

I put a new hoover bag on the hoover last night and hoovered the car to within an inch of its life. then spent half an hour going through the contents and still nothing. only thing i can think is its pinged to acoss the dash and in to the abyss of the screen blower.

have settled on the idea that i am going to need a new lens. Gutted about it as was getting on so well. Fingers crossed it wont take too long. Cant wait to get out on the golf course and play a round of golf where i can see where i am hitting the ball.

Hi Arthur and welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, not all hospital clinics provide all the different types of lenses now available for KC - and with budget reductions, that's unlikely to improve especially where the newer, more expensive lenses are concerned. There's a list of optometrists who fit people with KC at
www.keratoconus-group.org.uk/optoms/index.php
You might find an optom near you there, but bear in mind you'd have to pay the commercial rate that way. And also bear in mind that although Clearkone lenses work well for some people, we're all different and you might find they aren't the answer for you.
