Will I lose my job?
When I was first diagnosed, the question that worried me, even more than a worry about whether I'd lose my sight was whether I'd be able to continue to work.
Since then the UK Government has introduced the Disability Discrimination Act. This protects the employment interests of disabled people, whether their disability is a sensory impairement or a problem with mobility, or even a psychiatric condition.
Many people with Keratoconus continue to make a valueable contribution to their workplace. Most are able to see very well with contact lenses, but even those whose sight is significantly reduced can, with proper adjustments to their work environment, continue to make a good and important contribution to their employer's business.
