Re: Star trek
Yes, I saw it last night. I don't want to spoil the film for anyone, so let me just say that it was really good. As far as I am concerned, Mr Abrams can do another Star Trek film!

Re: Star trek
Excellent! I'm planning to go next week [in uniform!]
Did you know that Nichelle Nichols aka Lt Uhura in the Original Star Trek series was about to leave the show when Martin Luther King told her not to because she was the only black woman on TV in an intelligent role. Spock himself came up with both the Vulcan hand greeting [which comes from Hebrew] and the ‘Spock-grip’. He said playing Spock for 12 hours a day 5 days a week changed his personality, he would still be terribly logical at weekends.
He was also meant to do the infamous first ever inter-racial kiss with Uhura William Shatner muscled in

Re: Star trek
I saw the film on sunday as a birthday treat. It is BRILLIANT, proper Star Trek as far as I'm concerned.
I was amazed how well the actors bore a similarity to the original crew with the exception of the guy playing Checkov, particularly those playing Spock and Bones.
I believe a second film is being written and there will possibly be a third as well.
Leonard Nimoy originally wrote a book entitled 'I am not Spock' and then wrote a second called 'I am Spock'.
James Doohan, Scotty, lost the middle finger on his right hand in France during the D Day landings.
Lesley.
ps the film must have been good because my significant other didn't fall asleep through it!!

Re: Star trek
I saw it yesterday and agree it was fab! I wasn't sure it would work, plus I've been such a TNG and Voyager fan but it did work well. Simon Pegg was clearly having the time of his life playing Scottie, but I wasn't sure about Uhuru snogging Spock [or was I just jealous cos I quite fancied snogging young Original Spock
The cinema staff looked a little fazed by me flipping open my communicator although it was appreciated by the other customers before the film started.
I could have scanned them with my Tricorders too.....yes I own an Original tricorder, medical tricorder, phaser gun, com badge, ranking pips, ID cards, uniform and Borg costume complete with 'occular implant' which thankfully covers my bad eye otherwise I'd walk into things..
Oo 2 more films. great!

OOh, I love that for a T-shirt.
Maybe I should get one, and wear it whenever I go near certain members of the medical profession!
