For anyone who isn't a Radio 4 junkie (or is, and not been around at the time):

THis is the title of the current "book of the week". It's the diary of a newly-qualified doctor fresh from med school, as he starts work as a junior hospital doctor.
SOmetimes very poignant, sometimes very funny, wonderful picture of the inside of the NHS in all its glory (?).

Did you see the author, Max Pemberton, interviewed on Richard and Judy last week? It was quite interesting, they also had the doctor/comedian, Phil Hammond on with with him recalling his time as a junior doctor as well.

Sounds like on eof the (few) times it might be a shame.
I loved hearing Max reading it himself - he's got just the rght voice for the book.
I (think I) remember Phil from the radio comedy series "Struck Off and Die" - dr Phil and Dr Tony - which was on when I was still working for the NHS and was absolutely hilarious. Maybe particularly so to one working in the NHS>
Shame they didn't keep it on longer - maybe the average patient found it a bit too near the mark?
Where is Max now? - did he end up specialising in mental health?

In Glasgow it is Borders that have the best selection of talking books, including all of the BBC collection; so far as I know the BBC has an arrangement with publishers of books they broadcast to release the talking book AFTER the BBC has broadcast the 'taster'.
