I confess to enjoying the first few days when they are all competing for attention - and then get bored for a few weeks until the numbers get down to a more manageable level. Find the "people analysis" fascinating!

Can't be bothered to watch any of the live streaming but enjoy the daily round up., and Dermot on BBLB...

I can't say I'm a big fan Pat, most of the people in there are so boring! I watched a bit of the 1st series and the one where Jade was in it, but not regularly, otherwise I've not seen any of the others

Big Brother, wasn't he the name given to the 'state' in Orwell's 1984. I remember being very upset when they put Winston into Room 101 and fixed a cage of rats to his face.

I think that Room 101 is also the name of a popular television programme with Paul Merton. When I was at New College, it was also the room where we went for Hebrew Classes.

Did you hve it in mind that we should sit about reading Orwell's great novel? If so, I'm up for it, but I don't know who will sponsor me to do it

Ah yes I loved that film too, Richard Burton, John Hurt, like wise I enjoy Room 101.
There's also an episode of Star Trek Next Generation which is reminescent of 1984 - Picard is captured by the Cardassians [David Warner] and tortured. They try to convince him he can see more lights than what there are in trying to break him. Picard isn't broken, but later admits to Troi that he could indeed see the number of lights they wanted him to say. Brilliant.

I'd happily join you, an amazing book well worth the read, if you haven't read it try Animal Farm, very similar but based on Stalin's Russia.

Yes, I agree. I read animal Farm first. I felt for the horse who always said "I must work harder", and was then carted off to the knackers when he could work no more.

No, I wouldn't admit to having a fear of rats; the Ministry of love only subjected winston to that torture because of his morbid fear of rats.

So, Lou, was that a morbid fear of chocolate cake that you posted about somewhere else. If so, try not to fall into the hands of the Ministry of Love; they would put you in Room 101 with huge quantities of black forest cherry cake.

You might be able to hold out for a bit, but in the end they all crack!
