As some of you may know I've been off work for a while and have been getting pretty fed up at home. So, a surprise today when hubby rings me this morning (at 9.30 to get me up!) to tell me he's bought tickets for the local cinema tonight to see the new Hugh Grant/Drew Barrymore film, "Music & Lyrics". I have to say, the plot was a bit weak and predictable, but none the less just what I needed - a bit of light hearted fun and entertainment! Not a film to Q up for but made me laugh and romantic enough for pre-Valentines day! But most of all, a spontaneous gesture and well appreciated! Men aren't all bad all of the time!

Anyone else seen it yet?

Did you see Panorama last night - was all about Nursing homes for the elderly - frightening stuff!

Yuh! Shocking. My wife used to work in a care home. She left because she was appalled by what she saw having tried to improve things first. She was often chastised for spending too much time with the residents as the home had not paid for enough staff. The poor people were often left and neglected. It was truly horrible and we are often powerless to enforce better standards. Like the programme stated: dogs are higher in the social conscience!

i didnt catch panorama but i read alot of magazines and i've read a couple of stories about care homes and the way the elderly are treated, its sad to know there are cruel people out there....

When i was at college i worked in a home for the elderly at weekends, i hated it the staff were just awfull.
In the end i had a huge row with the Matron and walked out.
This lovely lady who was a resident had asked me one morning if i would make her some fresh toast because hers had been sitting on the side for ages, I couldn't see a problem with me popping to the kitchen and making some toast. Anyway Matron caught me told me they should be happy with what they get.
At this point i told her where she could stick her job!!!!!!!
Two weeks later they sent me a letter saying they had excepted my resignation

Onle experience of a care home was my Grandad ad it was excellent.

It was the British Legion home in Ripon and he was regularly visited by the lads now serving in his old regiment. They paid for a TV, trips out and loads of stuff, the service men that was out of their own pocket.

When he died they came to the funeral so he could be burried with full millitary honours. Grandad is still there because we scatterd his ashes all over the flowerbeds he helped to look after.

The home was for ex service men and women and there were young guys from the Falklands and the Gulf too.

That sounds excellent. British Legion are truly amazing, I am going to join I think.

You would have to be content with being on land, have not heard of one at sea yet

Don't worry I'm happy to be a land-lubber. My sea-going days are behind me.
