I love 24 with Kiefer Sutherland, I don't have Sky I'm watching dvds, anyone else like it?

I liked the first two series on BBC, mainly the first, but gave up when it moved to Sky. I couldn't be bovvered.

What is 24? Is it like 24 hours, the old news and current affairs programme with Frank Bough? I never cared much for that; the start of the dumbing down of British broadcasting.

Hmm, Andrew, I fear even further dumbing down required here.
24 is an imported American TV series st in real time.
Each programme of 1 hour (in reality 45 minutes) is meant to represent 1 hour in real time and so the events watched occur over a 24 hours period ( i.e 24 episodes).
The hero, Jack Bauer works for (or did, I no longer know or care) some Government internal security organisation and he regularly saves the world from terrorists etc. Get the picture!

I only watched a few, i never follow up with anything as i work some crazy shifts and don't want to get addicted and then miss it!!!

I know what you mean about addiction.

I watch some garbage or other, like Torchwood, and then I have to know the end, however bad it is. How sad is that.

You could buy a cheapo vcr and see Kiefer whenever you want; Sky + is a whole lot more expensive.

Of course , I could do for you what I do for my daughter, record all her favourite programmes onto dvd and send the discs to her. She then plays them on her laptop

Yes Jack works for CTU - counter terrorism unit and stops nuclear/bio threats and sometimes uses torture. Sounds grim I know, but there's something very addictive about it, probably Keifer Sutherland! However I really like the black president, he was fab!

I was also addicted to Jed Mecurio's 'Bodies', an excellent follow up to 'Cardiac Arrest', very dark.
Anyone remember an old US sci-fi series called 'The Invaders'? Think it was made in the 60's. I loved it though the opening music/credits mde me laugh, they way the voice over says 'The Invaders, A Quin Martin production, starring...'
It was good because they didn't have special effects then, so they used atmosphere and what you didn't see to great effect.

I also liked 'Dark Skies' and the 80's 'V' series - reptilian aliens concealed by human skins eating mice!

I have the box set of 'The Prisoner', January is a good time to get half price dvds from HMV online [free P&P too].

Bodies was brilliant although I was a little disappointed with the final Christmas conclusion.

Yup, I watched Dark Skies but I think it was dropped without a conclusion like so many American series.

Have you been watching American Gothic with Gary Cole; he was great in it.

Perhaps we should start a thread listing our favourite tv programmes.

I have been very impressed with Channel 4's Dispatches documentaries recently actually rather disturbing.

Trawlerman - I almost feel sea sick watching it. I feel like I am on the boat. These guys have incredible spirit and are so brave. Hundreds of miles from land, often in deep violent seas with almost certain death if they up in the sea.

I thought Dark Skies was fab, all the better for the late J.T Walsh.

I loved 'The Tommorow People' as a child, and 'Follyfoot' [oh dear, but I was a kid!].
I like psychological horror and Japanese/Chinese films are far superior to Hollywood, like 'Ring' and 'The Eye'. Also 'body horror' like Cronenberg and again Asian films.
Other favourites are Polanski's earlier work like 'The Tenant'.
