Well "barkers" as barking as I think you all are I think I may be even more barking than you.

I played golf yesterday in Thorpeness! Now that really was barking!

I have a heavy golf trolly, with clubs, which blew over on a regular basis, I was actually swept off my feet once, with several near misses and narrowly avoided a falling branch. I don't think it would have killed me if it had hit but I would have had a sore head.

My reward for riskiing life and limb was a nightmare 6 hour journey home ( should have been around 2 hours 45).

Michael,

I left work at 4:30 pm and could not go my usual 35 mile route which takes 40 minutes. Instead a very conveluted route and I got home 3 hours later!

M1 was closed, A6 closed, M6 closed, A5 closed, M69 closed.

Had to work my home through the B roads with lon waits everytime I had to cross an A road!

Did I see a single fallen tree or lorry considering my route was lined with trees practically all the way home.

NO :x

Gareth, put it down to one of those mysteries of life.

Of course you didn't see a single fallen tree - you were driving on the roads already declared "open".

Had a tree have fallen on them, they'd be declared "closed", and you'd be driving on other roads! :D

I braved the wind and rain to walk around the corner to a new restaurant that has opened close to our Glasgow flat. We were welcomed by a charming young woman, served in an efficient and unobtrusive way with good food wonderfully prepared.

At the end of the evening we were presented with the bill which we paid. I left a modest gratuity and we made our way back to our flat, holding our hats to avoid them being blown off.

Now which of these stories seems least insane. Gareth driving in dangerous winds. Michael playing gold in a hurricane (could just win the prize for the longest drive in the course's history), or andrew braving the elements to walk the short distance to a new restaurant?

I leave it to the good folks of the forum to decide.

As champion of the Snellen chart, I reckon I am also the least insane - I stayed at home on Thursday, and enjoyed the comfort of my log fire ! Then I cooked a good meal for my good (also golfing mad) man, and then fell asleep in front of the TV, Definately not exciting, but definately sane......!

But Michael has to take the prize as the most barking - well really, Thorpeness, honestly Michael.. in the wind? If you know Thorpeness, there's no contest!!!

So what's my prize then?

The thing is I am such a good golfer that I felt I needed a challenge  .

There were actually nine of us, three went home , three played three holes and went home.

Unfortunately one of the guys I was playing with was also my lift home and he is a madman. It was either play or twiddle my thumbs for 4 hours.

Michael

Everyyear in January the Church of Scotland golf Team hits the course to get ready for the match against the Church of England.

They spend two weeks, whatever the weather, bravely facing the golf course, honing their game ahead of the coming match. But they have the good sense to do all this in Florida!

Ah Andrew, now I understand the meaning of the expression "the sun shines on the righteous".
