Think I need a trophy cabinet!

As another weekend slips buy so I gain another trophy.
This one is a bit special as the rules are simple. You just vote for the car of the same model as yours, but you can not vote for yourslelf. So as I have an RS3100 I vote which one I think is the best and the other owners vote for what they think is the best.
Much to my amazement I got awarded this;
I have to return the cup next year, but in the past four years, only two other cars have one this and I was against both this year. The silver slaver is mine to keep which I have given to my wife as she was the one that polished the car.
Where was I?
Being a good helpful club member I was on car park marshalling duty, public announcements and later litter patrol.
Having a break from shows until the day before my wifes birthday! Hopefully we will be in with a chance if she helps clean the car along with my daughter.

Sorry I know this is an old post, but I hadnt seen it before, but I just have to say Gareth, your Capri looks great! My dad had one very similar to that. Well done!

Thats great, you're lucky to have such a beautiful car- wish I could by one myself! I can imagine its a personal secret to how you keep it looking good, but would you be able to tell me what polish or wax you use. I generally use fairly regular polishes and waxes such as Mer and Triplewax by car plan... Autoglym every now and then.

All I use is Autoglym and plenty of elbow grease.

Sounds good, thanks for that. I havent used much Autoglym before, but I might try the super resin polish because it removes the grime etc chemically as opposed to Mer which is abbrasive. Suppose Autoglym is the better option then!

Meguirs is the best, especially if you go for the three stage washing/polishing system, but that is expensive.
The Capri is easy to clean as I do no more than 1000 miles a year in it. Despite that it gets cleaned and polished most weekends, except winter wher it goes into a Carcoon which keeps the damp out and blows filterd air over the car!

this hobbie must cost you a pretty penny?.....its like following F1 Racing!...bludy expensive to follow that! as I have a few friends who are dead into and and spend a fortune !

Jay,
If you total up the cost of polish, petrol, entry to shows, overnight stays, insurance, MOT etc etc and forget about the cars value rising or falling I spend about £1 per mile travelled!
Quite cheap compared to being a spectator or partcipant in many other sports if you were to include all the travel expenses too.

Yeh, do you keep it in a garage during summer?
It really is a great hobby to have. The closest I have got to maintaining an old car is my 14 and a half year old Corolla which we had to sell eventually due to engine maintenance costs (it was our main use car) but I'm proud to say the exterior was in perfect condition, not a bit of rust, keeping in mind that our drive is under a tree. Sorry if I am sounding a bit obsessive here, I am just really inspired by your car. I love car care and am desperate to start learning how to drive later this year!
