I am now the proud owner of a radio controlled K9, about 3" big, to add to my collection of radio controlled Dalek, sonic screwdriver, Dalek and Tardis pens, medical tricorder with hand held scanner, communicator, atmospheric tricorder and phaser gun.

I don't possess a digital camera! I'd have to bring it along to a meeting, or perhaps we might have a sci-fi KC meeting?!

The amazing thing is the way in which real world technology is often inspired by science fiction.

The GPS system was inspired by the gizmo used by bond to track Goldfinger. Kennedy asked Hoover if the United States had one of these and the answer was given, "We will, Mr President".

Mobile phones were inspired by Star Trek (original cast)

Floppy disks (now old technology) were inspired by Star Trek

A whole range of robotic devices were inspired by the Daleks (the original brain child of Terry Nation)

And so on and on and on and on.

Hold onto your kitsch, Louise. Then you can compare the fictional attecedent to the real world development.

I enjoyed Dr Who last night. It was good to see that Mickey (always the spare person in episodes up to now) found for himself a purpose albeit in a Parallel Universe.

The first mass produced PC (Altair 8800) was named after a solar system in the original Star Trek.
A scientist at Apple was inspired to launch QuickTime after seeing Data access music instantaneously in SNG. this apparantly paved the way for MP3 and iPods.
Even McCoy's medical scanner may have influenced non invasive technologies such as ultrasound and MRI as well as blade free surgery.

Yes Jay it's ironic isn't it that I don't possess a proper camera and can only just switch on my PC yet I have all these futuristic gadgets!

You see, we have Dr Who and Star Trek to thank for everything!

My wife and daughter have been on a charity walk today and the entertainment at the end was provided by a band made up of a couple of Daleks and Cyber Men

Me, well I just spent another day in a field in the pouring rain and despite a couple morons driving there cars right infront of mine and spraying the whole front end in mud, I won another trophy.

Attended three out of the four shows to date and won all that I have attended

Car now needs a polish as mud got sprayed everywhere as I slitherd my way out of the field. Car been hosed down in the rain and dried in the garage topside and underside, only took a couple hours
