Anyone been watching Dr Who? I just love it and can't wait for the return of the cybermen, K9 and more Daleks. I wonder if The Master might also reappear, though noone could touch the original. So Rose got to snog the Dr...I would have preferred to have snogged Christopher Eccleston myself, though I did once get to snog Avon from Blakes 7 at a convention [in front of 50 people I might add, and he snogged me]. I have my Dr Who pen with sound effects, my sonic screwdriver and radiocontrolled Dalek, ahh..

Battlestar Gallactica (the new version)... by far.

Babylon 5 was also VERY good. I'd put it above SW and ST easily.

I find it hard to compare Star Wars and Star Trek... they are so different. They both have their ups and downs... but I'd probably have to give the edge to Star Trek.

Farscape was also very good, I hear.

So i have voted Star Trek as that is about all i have seen and i did enjoy it. Red Dwarf was good as well though so thanks for adding that one!!

I think this thread is going to prove that the public are always right

Both Trek and Who have a lot in common. They've both been around since the sixties, have both had feature films and have both been "rested" for significant periods.

However, although I certainly enjoy Star Trek, I have to comment that I think it has the definite "samey" feel to it, and there is a certain "Trek ending" to almost every story... where things are back as they were at the beginning.

Although this is also true of Doctor Who to an extent, I feel that the WHO format is unique in being infinitely flexible. Sure, Star Trek can travel in time, but it never feels right to me doing so in that Universe. I certainly couldn't imagine Capts. Kirk, Picard, Sisko or Janeway visiting Queen Victoria (this Saturday on Doctor Who) or any other period of history come to that. The furthest in time they ever seem to go back is our present. Funny, that!

Plus of course, the Doctor is British. Well, no - he's Gallifreyan... but he might as well be British! The programme is a national treasure and institution and it needs more votes!

i like stargate sg1 - it just works together, the actors, the stories, the locations.

Seriously though, Battlestar Galactica (new series) should be on the list - have just finished season 2 and its uber good.

Anyway gotta go got my Genesis of the Daleks DVD to watch that SWMBO bought me.

Babylon 5 actually gets my vote here.... it benefited from a single writer though it did suffer from networking politics.

John... ST does travel further back in time... though ONLY to the US rofl! Remember when Data's head was found in a San Fran Sisco mineshaft?? The crew went back to early 20th century where they met Guinan together with Jack London and Sam Clemens (Mark Twain). Trouble with ST it doesn't take the chances that Dr Who does - it's the beauty of a British production.

I must admit, I cut my SF teeth on Dr Who and although I did love the older series, the new versions are stunning.

Blakes 7 was brilliant, Red Dwarf excellent and Hitchikers priceless...

B5 still gets my vote though as the overall best SF concept. Andreas Katsulis was a revelation as G'kar and the banter between him and Peter Jurasik as Londo Mollari was sooo funny! I was sad to see Andreas died this February at only 59.

Stargate I enjoyed but it went on too long.. the story lines are now jaded...
