I don't use sat nav,nearly all direct people across an impassable ford when they come and visit.
Only certain large farm vehicles can cross and certainly no Lad drover or larger 4x4 will make it!
Stick to Ordanace Survey, look at the map and make a mental picture, I get lost far less than my friends with Sat Nav.
They casue accidents too, drivers too busy looking at Sat Nav instead of the road in front.

Nav has been a god-send for me. I have a horrid sense of direction.
I will never be without it again.

My Nav has a male and a female voice. It also responds to voice commands, but I find using the touch screen better.
We use the female voice and have named 'her' - 'Brenda'.

I agree with your comment about people fiddling with their sat nav, my hubby included!
There seemed to be even more accidents than usual just after xmas, I wonder how many of those were caused by people fiddling with their new toys!

My computer (Apple running on Mac OSX) speaks to me in a voice that the designers named "Fred". I find it tremendously helpful, but am not sure how I'd take to it hectoring me if I was driving.

Going to try Sat Nav tomorrow when I visit friends in Leer. The directions are voise, but right infront of me will be an arrow and distance pointing where I go next. At least I undrstand distances, left right etc in German.
I know where I am going, just interested to see what Sat Nav says

I love my satnav. I have a kind lady keeping me company, talking to me with soothing tone, not at all strident.
Bless her she does sometimes get confused at roundabouts, telling me to take the 2nd exit when she meant the 3rd but I assume that this is a problem she has with multi-tasking. But no worries, she will soon calculate a reroute and have me back on course.
I find I normally have no need to look at the screen whilst on the move so do not consider the satnav to be a distraction.
A truly wonderful gadget which I now find more useful than ever.
