But, and here is where I risk seeming really naive, shouldn't the car have been supplied with all these benefits?

Yes, but you see when these vehicles are made they are always under speced in terms of the output of the engines etc.......so if you want more you basically just get the various parts replacled; OR in this case get the computer chip remapped to exert more force when required

The other thing to remeber is many people who get sporty cars including diesels now are boy racers and drive like idiots and I mean the spelling of idiot with a T at the start and end with a vowel and consenant in the middle

Keep the power down keeps the insurance lower and helps sell cars at a lower tax bracket.

De-tuning an engine is as bad as overtuning which most manufacturers do, so if you optimise everything, overall performance is improved and so is the longevity of the vehicle, so needs replacing less often so less of a burden on the planets resources.

See J, you now have a Green eco frinedly reason to invalidate the warrenty!

Oh, why didn't you just say it is a "green" thing! I'd have signed up to it, I like whales and dolphins, rain forrests and lush green pasture.

Jay, you have a positive duty to invalidae your warranty.

Oh, I thought he meant the people who buy flash looking cars and are happy with a power ratio that wouldn't be able to pull the skin off a rice pudding.

I rather thought he was approving of your Tim "tool-time" Taylor quest for "More Power".

:D

Jay,

You know I would never be quite so subtle :D

Anway in a pm you sent me you did say you used to drive like one of these!

Now you have seen the error of your ways and did at least try and convince me you have changed. 8)

The alternative to change is to take to the track

Even there you can drive like an idiot, but then when you die like an idiot, there or more people to witness how bigger idiot you were.
