Ha! true Gareth, it's not vogue to be skeletal in Africa and if you have to walk several miles each day for water no you wouldn't last long! Perhaps we need to send designers and models to Africa for a while...
True Matthew, life without a bit of choccie or a drinkie would be a boring

I must admit I used to obsess about my weight when I was in my late teens/early 20's, until one day I happened to be in Sloane Square and Sophia Loren was doing a book signing - she was not fat, but she was big and the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.
I tried the Atkins a few years ago and got down to 9 and a half stone (lost 2 stones in a month - unbelievable ) - but as I'm 5 foot 10 I looked skeletal - and everyone kept asking me was I ill.
(I had a great time putting all the weight back on though

I think I read somewhere that when people go on one of these diets, they tend to put all their weight loss back on (often with a fair margin of extra weight) whenever they go back to normal eating. I am pretty sure it said that the body goes into "famine" mode when we diet, so that it thinks it has to lay down reserves for the enxt famine whenever it gets a "normal" amount of food.
Sensible eating seems to be the order of the day, and if we are going to have a sustainable loss of weight; gradually is better than quickly.
But, when you travel through railway stations and find the whole concourse suffused with the delicious aroma of West Cornwall Pasties, it is hard to be sensible.
