My darling father was an very good footy player. He was always trim taut and terrific. Since quitting football about 30 years ago he has added about 4-5 kilos to his 6' frame. Latley he has been tiling and painting my sisters new house (he was a brickie by trade) and in the heat he has lost a bit of weight he is half a kilo (1 pound) above his playing weight. He is telling everyone, I think he is after a game. He is 69 in 12 days.

You say "footie", but I'm guessing you mean Australian Rules rather than association football?
I recently watched a 'verterans' rugby match here. The youngest player was my age and the oldest was nearly 70. The game was in two halves, each of only 25 minutes, nobody fractured their femur and the only goal was dropped and kicked by the young man.
There were a couple of touchdowns but no conversions. Good game, but they will prpbably never manage to sell the television rights.

What really brought it home to me that I am now the wrong side of 30 was when the nurse was making sure I could manage my new lenses as it had been so long between graft and needing contacts.
She wonderd what an earth was wrong when I shrieked as the first lens went in and I could see. The first thing I saw was that the hair on top had thinned and appeared to have found a new location up my nose.
The shreik was closely followed by Ohhh *&^*^%^ i have nose hair, I'm old!
At which point we fell about laughing and several optoms came running to see what all the comotion was about.
This is the only down side I have found to having to wear lenses.
