Not only do they change corneas in eyes. What about some new skin in your face! :)

yeh this is amazing.

i saw a before and after pic (before the mauling that is) and she actually looks better after i think! although you can see the join marks. but, she couldnt speak, eat or drink before the operation and now she can, so it's been a big success.

the only thing that bothers me is having some dead persons face. vital organs, cornea etc. is one thing. but to look like the dead person is slightly freakish!

anyway... hopefully i wont be needing a face transplant anytime soon.

I watched that woman on the tv. What courage!

I just could not imagine waking up and finding that ones own dog had eaten one's face. Then to wake up another time and see somebody elses face in the mirror and know that this was the future.

Amazing.

Kind of puts other things in a new perspective.

Yes this has been much talked about it work with some surgeons very impressed while others do seem angry that she tried to commit suixide and now has been given a new face. But i don't think that this is up to any of us to decide and is about the patient and the surgeons who operated on her.

I haven't really heard of any labradors being that nasty either, they are normally very gentle by nature so was wondering how her own pet did such a terrible act.

Am hoping she does well and i do find it inspirational what we can now do. Hopefully having a graft would sometime either be history or a routine operation!

You're right about labradors, I had exactly the same thought.

But she was unconcious due to an overdose wasn't she? Perhaps she'd done something to annoy the dog, or perhaps she had something on her face which was an hallucinogen to the dog, and it didn't know what it was doing?!

Either way, I hope she stops smoking and makes a full recovery.
