Post op recovery

9 wks post op and I'm in the 2nd week of the cold from hell - now on antibiotics. Had a cold two weeks post op as well. Anybody else experience this? I'm also wondering if I resumed training too soon as well - I'm doing the Flora London Marathon for Guide Dogs on 23rd April. I started walking again 2 weeks post op, run/walking after 3 and now have an injured glute which I've been told I need to rest! I'm supposed to do a 10 miler this week! I'm wondering whether my immune system has been a bit battered due to the anasthetic ( sorry can't spell it!). I'm coughing like a 40 a day smoker!! The eye despite sneezing is doing well, vision much better than pre op, no pain and looking good. Tubs

Sounds as if your immune system has taken a battering.....it also sounds like you MAY be doing a it too much.......I would, in your place, lighten the walk/running.............but if you are going to continue..make sure you increase protein and balance the carbs........

I know how much you have on the project of running in the Marathon, but wonder whether your injury, colds etc may be telling you "not this year".
I was told, after my graft, that I ought to take six weeks before returning to the gym. Then I was told by the trainers in the local authority gym that I ought to build back very gradually.
The issue seems to be avoiding activity that would tend to increase the pressure inside your eye. There is a simple equation: heart beat goes up

pressure in eye goes up

strain on sutures increases.
Raise the question with your ophthalmologist when you next have an appointment, or if that is a long way off, go to see your GP.
By next year you may be fit enough to have been training in good time for the marathon. If that happens, I'll sponsor you.

I was told to stop for 12 months!...Lol...only really started properly in the past month...although I did return at the 6 month mark doing very ligh exercises......
At first I was very depressed as I dropped some 3 stone in bodyweight!....but I think when you put it in context....12 months is not that much when you have the rest of your life.............

Listen to your body as you would your eyes. If a lens was hurting, you would take it out. If you are unwell and injured the body is saying 'not now'.

Very light exercise was all they let me do at first. I gradually built up and would say that by 18 months I was back to moderate exercise.

I know this may not be what you wanted to hear, but I hope it is helping. I am a veteran of several 'fun runs' but I have never run a full Marathon.

Lisa, I would calm down the walking/running activities if I were you. My surgeon gave me 3 months off work and to rest calmly as the graft heals, even to ask my employer to have a less stressful time at work when I return. Not to lift anything, not any training, and even no sex!!!
As a result I gain more and more weight. But I will rather do this in order to get the best possible result for my graft. I have the rest of my life for carrying, running and having sex
All the best !

No sex!! I wasn't told that! Is this to do with er, level of activity or increased heart rate raising the intraoccular pressure? Need to know for purely scientific reasons of course.

Does it alter the pressure in the eye if you're lying down? [she says falling over laughing]

Hehe, I think it is about physical activity leading to pressure in the eye. Perhaps not as dangerous to women
But I don´t know. I never asked that spesific. A harmless blowjob might even be dangerous, especially for the person performing it. Also in terms of sexual excitement and whatever that might do to your eye
Well, a bit off topic that one !
