Hi, I'm new here . I have KC and have had a cornea graft in my left eye twice. I wear an rgp contact lens in my right eye. I hate hard lenses and wanted to try kerasoft ic but no optician in my area has heard of them. how can I get an optician interested to find out how they can be ordered.

Might be worth getting your GP to refer you to your local hospital optometry department?

Kerasoft I believe are different to fit than rgp so the optician will probably need training and need more than one person to want them.....

You could also email ultra vision to find an optician nearest you that does practice in them. As us KC ers anew all different they don't work for everyone.

The honest answer to your question is "whatever is indicated for your eyes". Some lenses suit some poeple and not others; KC is a condition that resists 'one size fits all' solutions.

An appointment with ophthalmology can't help. In Scotland your Optometrist would be best placed to arrange this for you, but in other jurisdictions it would be your GP

Thanks for the replies. I was attending the hospital in Glasgow but have since moved to Tamworth. My gp has referred me to Birmingham city hospital and i am still waiting for that appointment. I have lost my contact lens and i am using a spare lens but that i was told by the hospital in Glasgow at the time that it can only be used as a spare as it can cause more damage to my eye if i wear it for to long. I have a telephone number for Bosche and Lombe in the UK so i will call them and ask them if they know of a registered optician that can help me with the lenses. I am not sure if its just this area but the opticians seen to be a bit useless and the ones i have asked about Kerasoft IC have not heard of them. Maybe its worth while seeing about soft lenses for my left eye ( The grafted one ) it might be easier.

Contact Ultravisionwho manufacture Kerasof lenses and they may be able to put you in touch with an optomotrist in the Tamowrth area that can fit Kerasoft lenses.

Birmingham eye unit fit these lenses as do Walsgrave hospital in Coventry.
