Forum upgrade

Postby John Smith » Wed 04 Jan 2006 11:18 pm

Over the next couple of days, I hope to be updating the forum software.

Apart from benefiting from the latest bug fixes and security improvements, I'm also moving the forum to use the same database as the main site, so eventually, all KC Group members will be able to seamlessly make use of the "members only" portion of the web site, the content of which we will then enlarge.

The Christmas decorations will be taken down at the same time (sorry, but we can't have Santas and snow up all year :D ) and some other graphical improvements will occur - possibly arriving in a week or two's time.

Finally, the forum will move from being a seperate "site" at forum.keratoconus-group.co.uk to being a simple subdirectory of the main site. This should help to reinforce that the forum is simply one of our activities, albeit our most active one.

If you do suffer any problems in the next few days, PLEASE LET ME KNOW - by email to webmaster@keratoconus-group.org.uk. Don't assume that PMs are working if you're already having trouble!

All the best,

John

Well, all should now be working on the new software.

If you're having difficulty logging in, you will find that your "username" is now case sensitive, so it should be entered in the same case as it was when you registered. Unforunately, this is also true when you ask for your password to be sent to you.

The forum Search facility is currently broken, but it should be working again before the weekend.

Please let me know if you have any more problems.

The case-sensitivity issue should now be fixed, so you can log in using your username however you type it.

John

As you know I had problems with the new software, and I am not sure that these had anything to do with my not knowing how to spell my name!

Your intervention has exulted the valleys and laid low the mountains for me, and for this I am deeply grateful!

Yours aye

Andrew

I really like your rows of eyes! One for contributors, two for regular contrbutors, three for chatterboxers, four for stalwarts, five for Moderators.

It's lile the AA's method of grading restaurants :D

Glad you like them! They're not yet the end of the graphical tinkering though... I did plan on having a row of little KC group icons rather than eyes, but now the eyes are the right colour, I rather like them, so they may just stay!

I am hoping to get personalised avatars going soon though too. They'll be limited to a photo of the poster though - to help us recognise each other; not for having a picture of Bugs Bunny next to someone's posts!

Well... if you wear the little pink fairy outfit for your photo then that'll be OK. :D

You will need to turn up in the same costume at the next social though!
