Is there anyone out there how has KC and a squint (Other than me)?

I have been diagnosed for about three months now and have had lenses (small RGP's) for about 6 weeks.

At first i was getting pain in my left eye and after about a hour of waring my lenses my squint would return. I went back to the hospital about my left lens and got two new lenses as the fit and prescription was wrong on both.

Now with my new lenses i can ware them for around 4 hours as long as i dont need to read or do any close up work. If i do my squint returns and i cannot see anything without double vision, the more i try to focus the worse the double vision gets!

My squint was corrected with many surgerys the last being around 10 years ago. and since then i have had no double vision.

Has anyone experianced anything like this?
Is it just that I am still getting used to good vision in my left eye?
Is my prescription still wrong?

I have quiet a pronounced squint in my left eye. I am nearly blind in that eye though (not through KC). I do get issues which the consultants don't understand send me a private message if you wish to discuss further.

Hiya,

yeah I have a KC and a squint I had ops on both eyes for squints around 30 years ago when I was 5.

My left eye is _very_ lazy and is waiting for a graft.

The consultant has said that his concern is that once my left eye has been done and I can use it again, due to KC my right eye is possibly going to deteriorate at which point I have to learn to really use my left eye (I mainly use my right at the moment), which could be a challenge.

So he may have to take a closer look at the squints - which as he said may need surgery.

However thats mostly quite a long way off as I am waiting for the corneal graft in my left eye first (March/April I am told).

Anyway good luck with your squints and the KC, you are not alone in complicating matters.

I have my second squint op on Wednesday although I feel very lucky that a graft hasnt even been suggested yet

Were you wearing glasses before your KC was diagnosed?

I was and although I didn't know it until my KC was diagnosed, I had a large prism in my glasses helping me to deal with a squint I knew nothing about!!

I think the better your vision, the more obvious the squint is. I also notice my squint is more noticeable when I am tired, so maybe all the effort you are putting into getting used to your lenses is adding to the effect.

I used to work with a student who had KC and a squint. As I recall she wore RGP lenses for her KC and some specs for her squint.

I think she found the RGP lenses quite comfortable, and remember comparing notes with her when I was finding mine kept popping out entirely of their own accord.

Are they talking about further surgery for your squint?

As to the double vision, for some time the prescription between my right and left lenses was so different that my eyes actually saw things in different sizes. This gave me a tendency to double vision, especially when doing close up work or reading.

I learned to look through one eye only for close up work. My right eye is naturally dominant, so it was pretty easy to learn not to look through my left eye, but in time I was able to learn to turn on my left and not look through my right.
