Hiya..
I have found this forum very useful in looking for answers since being diagnosed with kerataconus so thought id join in..
I have been waiting for a NHS appointment to see a consultant for months now as i was told i had suspected kerataconus.. and within the space of a few months the eyesight in my eye had deteriorated so much that my prescription went from something like -1 to -7.5 ... I had waited 3 months to see someone just for lenses and eventually when i was told to pick them up a week later they were the wrong ones ordered.. 6 weeks later and still no lenses as i was told i had to wait until my next appointment two and a half months after original one for them..
anyways to cut a long story short id had enough and needed answers... Id lie awake every night wondering how bad my eyesight had become or was going to get... I decided i needed a private consultation to get the answers i needed and to stop my eyesight getting worse... Im too scared to even drive and havent driven in months because of it..
I decided to go with accuvison even though im in wales and had to travel to bristol they offer tcat so i wanted to see if i was a suitable for that..
Met Nick dash who was very friendly and welcoming.. He explained everything to me.. how far the kerataconus was progressed, how it was progressed in my eyes, how thick the cornea was etc etc all the answers i was looking for.. and that i was a suitable candidate for both TCAT and cross linking.. now i can sleep at night without worrying as i've got the answers i need.. I couldn't wait any longer for the nhs so even if one person looks at this whos thinking of going for a consultation rather than waiting and waiting for the nhs then all i can say is please go for it.. as least you will know where you stand..i only wish i did it sooner before it had progressed so much in that one eye.. and if you are thinking of going with accuvsion then I recommend Nick Dash. He looks after the england cricket team but he is so modest and down to earth..
thank you for reading and hope it helps.. my next step is getting the cross linking procedure.. I decided against TCAT as before i had the consultation i was in dream land thinking TCAT will restore my vision in the bad eye to nearly what it was before it deteriorated but this is not the case..
Private Consultation- Go for it..
