I do not know what to do...

Hi Everyone!

Thought I would post on here, as you all understand. I am at a crossroads in my life. I was diagnosed with KC when I was fourteen, I struggled at school but managed to pass my exams to get into university to study Primary Education but I had to give it up due to my failing eyesight. I have had a couple of jobs, which only were temporary and not made permenant because I could not make up the over time due to contact lens wearing! I have now had a graft in my left eye and I am glad to say, that it is already improving. I am now waiting for my left eye to recover fully, so I can have my right eye seen to. I do not know what to do career wise! I would like to go Nursing but I do not know how I will cope with my sight. Are there any Nurses on here with KC? I think a lot of is that the fact I have lost my confidence having had this diesease so advanced, so early in my life.

Thanks for listening to me, we are all here for each other

Jennie x :)

Hi there Jennie

Yes, there are at least one nurse and ex-nurse who post here, hopefully they'll be along to offer their opinions. For me, I'd say that you should always aim to do what you really want to do in life and not let Keratoconus stop you from doing it. The key is to be able to get to a point where you can work out what it is you do want. I don't believe that things happen for no reason. Has what you've gone through getting your vision sorted (or at least, as good as it can be) taught you anything along the way ? Has it made you even more determined that ever to pursue a career in nursing ? Or has it -- literally and figuratively -- opened your eyes to other possibilities (e.g. a specific field in nursing or something related but slightly different) ?

Best wishes

Chris
