Realistic Time Frame To Wear Lenses Post CXL

Postby gr1ffiths » Sun 27 Jan 2013 5:38 pm

Sorry if this has been covered before!

Can anyone tell me a realistic time frame post CXL to wear lenses again??

Consultant told me a minimum of 2 weeks before even attempting to put contact lens in but maybe between 2 - 6 weeks would be ok.

Any help would be gratefully recieved!!

Hi Leighton, hopefully one of the optometrists who sometimes look at this site will be able to say, or else someone who's actually had Crosslinking !

Best wishes

Chris

Hi,

I was told 1 month after CXL, I can start looking at GP Lenses,

But as the cornea settles and stabilises over the following months, I will probably need several changes in lenses.

However If you mean soft lenses It may be completely different.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Amzy

Thanks Amzy, I think I was being a bit unrealistic thinking a couple of weeks. :(

Hi

I was able to use a kerasoft 2 weeks post cxl. Mine was Femto pocket though so the epi layer was merely cut and not removed so this could affect things.

Rigid lenses generally mould the cornea more due to their rigid nature. A soft lens drapes more and some consultants use a bandage lens to protect the front of the cornea after CXL. A bandage lens is a very similar material to the soft lenses used for KC which is also why soft lenses can often be used sooner.

I wear piggy backs and had mine re-fitted/back in after 4 weeks :)
