Droopy eyelid-alternative lenses to RGP's

Postby Richrapid » Mon 17 Dec 2012 1:14 pm

Hello,

I have a droopy upper eyelid and have today been to Moorfields, where they have authorised surgery if I want it. This droopiness has been casued by my RGP's. I know that if I have the op- the droopiness may return if I continue to wear RGP's.

I've got an optomterist appt. on Thursday where I will discuss it. Does anyone have any suggesstions about alternative lenses I could ask for?

Many Thanks

Hello Rich,
I'm not sure why rgps would cause droopy eyelids unless you're half closing your eyes in an effort to keep the lenses in your eye. If that's the case, then it might be worth asking whether a larger diameter lens would help. That could be a larger diameter corneal lens, or something like a semi scleral or full scleral lens.

Hi Rich

I thought it was just me ! I had a droopy eyelid which I put down to the irregular shape of my eye rather than the RGP when I wore them ! It did give me a slightly dozed-off look, I wasn't too bothered about it but I think for some people it would have been a thing which could make you self-conscious. I thought it was fixed with a graft... Now I know from what you've written it might be because of RGP wear. How interesting. Gives me another reason for not wanting to go back to them.

Best wishes and thanks for the info.

Chris

This is interesting because when I'm tired my lens eyelid does drop and I've seen it in photographs. It's not like this all the time but it is noticeably lower when I'm tired

Yep i have got that after 37 years of RGP wear. When I have a topography on my graft they have to hold the lid up. I have put it down to wear and tear on the lids by inseting and blinking the lenses out .
