What Does This mean?

Postby tomedwards » Thu 26 Jan 2012 2:51 pm

What do these readings mean? is it advanced/mild or moderate KC?

Right Dist 6/24 - 1.25 / + 1.75 x 160 6/5-2 N5
Left Dist 6/30 - 1.25 / + 3,00 x25 6/7.5 N5

I should have asked my optician, but forgot!

Hello:

This is your optical prescription

- (6/24) : Your uncorrected visual acuity (without glasses) (how you see w/o glasses at distance)
- (1.25 / + 1.75 x 160 ) : Your spectacle prescription
- (6/5-2) : Your corrected visual acuity at distance (with your glasses) (how you see with your glasses at distance)
- (N5): Your corrected visual acuity at near i.e. for reading

The severity scale for keratoconus is based on the curvature of the cornea as measured with the topography and expressed as Sim-K. And because there is a loose relation between more severe presentations and more myopia and decreased vision, and taking in consideration your visual acuity, I may think your keratoconus is worse in your left eye than in the RE and neither advanced nor severe.

Hi Fernando.

Thankyou for your reply. I am contact lens intolerant and my when i wear my glasses i still get ghosting (multiple images) and haloes around lights. So i was wondering if you think, according to my readings, any form of current treatments available, would suit me?

Thankyou
Tom.

Hi Tom:

"Contact lens intolerant" is really a vague concept. There are a lot of different lenses besides rigid gas permeable . Have you tried soft contact lenses intended for keratoconus as Kerasoft or hybrid as Clearkone or sclerals?
My experience with Kerasoft, an English soft contact lens, is very good.
