Lens disappearing!

 Hello peeps,
My RGP lens has taken to "disappearing" upwards into the top of the eye, up even past the upper lid. (And no, I never sleep with the lens in).

Has this happened to anyone else? What's the reason for it?

I find that the only way I can get it out is by sterilising an eye bath with boiling water, then filling it with saline and applying it to the eye. With any luck, after alot of patience, a few tweaks of the upper lid and some swilling around of the saline in the eye, the lens will drop into the eye bath.

How do I prevent this happening?
I'm worried that the inside of my eye is going to get damaged.

The instructions that came with my lenses said that if this happend, gently massage the eye lid while looking down to bring the lens to a more accesable position. If this does not work, then sleeping with the lens and visiting the eye practitioner the next day would not do any harm. I think this is because the lens is not on the part of the eye you see through, so any damage would not be visible to you.

My right lens does this when I first put it in. This eye is quite watery on a morning and I also have a lens fit issue which requires my eye to stabalise before the lens is changed. It has been sliding round the ye when I first put it in for a month now and the in that same period the lens moves postion throughout the day but still covers most of the pupil and some of the iris so my vision is more blurred at the end of the day.

So it might be a lens fit issue, if you have any concerns, get to see the optom just for extra peace of mind.

Hope this helps.

Gareth

Hello Gareth,
Thanks for your reply.
I'm due to see the optom (mine's an NHS one, in a hospital) in November. It's a 2-hour journey to the hospital, and I've already had to make the journey 7 times this year. I don't relish the prospect of having to trail over there when the lens vanishes!

I'll try massaging the upper lid like you suggested if it happens again.

Thanks.

oooh this brings back memorys of my first Corneal Lens...!

Does this happen when you and taking the lens out or randonmly?

If its randomly than Id get the fit looked at....however if its during the time when you are trying to remove the lens (which was my case) than I adopted a reverse approach where I ensured the lens would go to the bottom of my lid and then id take the lens out with my fingers!

Hi,
It just happens at random, usually about fifteen minutes before I'm due to be somewhere or meet up with someone!
