I was diagnosed with bilateral Keratoconus 1995. I've been out of the system for a while and I had my first check-up at the eye clinic yesterday. The first one in five years it turns out - foolish I know!

I had my vision checked by a nurse before being taken through to the Ophthalmology department. They did a more thorough eye test and they wrote me out a prescription for glasses. The details are as follows...
Right
Sph: +1.50
Cyl: -2.50
Axis 75
Left
Sph: +1.25
Cyl: -2.75
Axis 100
I then went to see the Consultant who advised me of several things
1. the Keratoconus had barely progressed since my last visit 5 years ago
2. the Keratoconus was highly unlikely to progress significantly after the age of 35 (I am now almost 39).
I'm now due to attend the Consultants clinic again in 6 months and I've had an appointment made for the Contact Lens Clinic.
My two questions are:
1. The glasses prescription was calculated on my eyes when I hadn't worn contact lenses all day. I was told that my RGP physically flatten the surface of the eye and the eye holds this flattened shape for a while after the lenses are removed. If I have glasses to use when I remove my contact lenses, won't the surface of the eye be a different shape to when I was tested for the glasses and therefore require a different prescription?
2. I get by well enough even without contact lenses. If the progression of the keratoconus has significantly halted am I simply increasing the chances of corneal scarring and other problems by continuing to use RGP lenses?
Many thanks everyone!
Mike
