Hi everyone,
I wasn't sure if there was somewhere specific I should post an intro so I hope here is OK.
I'm new to the forum but not new to KC.
I was diagnosed in 1986 and have been through various options. I had moderate KC in the right eye and severe in the left.
I managed for a long time with RGPs but then started to have problems with them rubbing on the corneas. For the right eye I've been doing well with a soft lens (one of the newer ones that seem to work with milder KC) but I lost all useful vision in the left eye about 5 years ago.
It's surprising how well the brain can compensate and I got on pretty well with only one (reasonably) good eye for a while. But then I developed some abrasions and scarring on the left cornea and developed a sensitivity to light that was having a big impact on my overall vision.
Finally ended up having a full thickness transplant (left eye) in November last year.
Now 11 months in and things are going well. The transplant seems to be taking very well and I have started to get some pretty good vision in the eye even without correction.
I've had 6 stitches removed and there's still 7 in the eye.
The strange thing is that my brain seems to struggle to cope with the fact that I now have some vision in that eye and I do find myself getting eye strain and headaches, probably because the vision still isn't really stable yet.
Anyway, that's enough about me for now. I'm looking forward to contributing where I can
All the best
Ralph

Ralph,
Welcome to the forum and, yes, this is the right place to post. Every good wish with your continued recovery from surgery. Six sutures down with seven still in place must make the world look rather odd, and your brain will be doing summersaults to try to make sense of the images it is receiving from your eye. That said, as time goes by you will become more adept at 'seeing the world', just in time for the rest of your sutures to be removed and for you to start over with a new image of the world.
Every good wish. When all is done and everything has settled down, I hope that you have vision as good as mine, post graft and with correction I have better than 6/6.
Andrew
