Hi

Have been for my 1st fitting of contact lens on my grafted eye. Was a bit apprehensive about it.

Seem to go ok as had 2 people checking it as one was a learner.

I ended up having a quasar contact lens which i hadnt heard of before.

Its bigger than the rose k lens so at least i will know which is which. Lol

When i had it in it felt like id had my graft done all over again. Is that normal?

They said it will take several trys to maybe get it right. but Mr Morrell said if i cant handle the lens then it will be laser probably.


just a case of waiting...........

Funnily enough I was talking to a friend yesterday about Quasar Lenses. These are a popular Rigid Gas Permeable system, well tried and tested.

About feeling as if you have that you have already had your graft mirrors the sense that others have reported after having a graft that it feels like they are wearing a contact lens.

I really REALLY try to avoid coming between a patient and their professional but your comment "They said it will take several trys to maybe get it right. but Mr Morrell said if i cant handle the lens then it will be laser probably." prompts me to ask a few questions.

What laser treatment is being considered for you? Additionally, if they are saying that laser treatment rests on you being able to "handle the lens", then there a good many other lens types that can be tried before one gives up on that method of correction. Laser treatment is irreversible, so all possibilities should be exhausted first of all.

thanks for your reply. Mr Morrell (surgeon) said if i cant handle the contact lens then he would suggest laser. I have a -6.5 power (vision needed) before graft it was -18.

I went on tuesday for contact lens apt and they said that maybe it would take a few trys at the contact lens to get it right. whilst i was there i think they tried a rose k but it was too big and was moving about all time. so they moved to try the quasar lens.

This lens that i am picking up shortly i wopuldnt say was ideal, As it affected me everytime i blinked. Mr morrell wants to see me again in dec.

What I was getting at was does he mean by "handle" whether you can tolerate/get good vision with a contact lens?

Just so you know, there are lots of contact lens options available and not all of them are rigid corneal types. Other types inlcude sclerals and soft lenses, so do make sure all options are looked into before you embark on further surgery.

Yes i know there are other lenses out there. So am hoping that there will be one out there.

Before i had my graft i couldnt manage the half and half lens. (forget the name).

Then don't exclude totally soft lenses. I fit a good many post graft with this type of lens and the comfort is excellent.
