Post Graft Vision

Postby Pauline Houke » Tue 23 Aug 2005 12:47 pm

If you have had a graft can you describe to me what your vision was like in the early days and then later on so i can compare with how i am seeing. Straight after the op it was as if I was looking through a very thick layer of vaseline and now 2 months on it's as if i am looking through a thin layer of vaseline. Does this sound right?

I know you'll probably think I am being a bit shallow here but I also wonder if I will ever be able to wear eye make up again. I used to wear eye liner and mascara but obviously haven't since the graft. For me wearing make up gives me a bit of self confidence and with everything I've been through lately i need all the help I can get in that department!

Mine in the first few weeks post op was as if I had a bad pair of glasses on....basically everything seems further away than it was........however was like looking through your windscreen when its pouring with rain and you HAVENT yet enabled the windscreen wipers?.....do you know what i mean?.......like when its raining heavy and u just get in your car....all the rain simply slides off....and then when u enable the wipers u than get scatters....well mkine was as if the rain was sliding off..

From the things I have read here about partial and full grafts, I personally think you see more earlier with a full graft. I know the day after my op, I could see the first two lines and I had the full graft.

To me the partial graft gives more fuzzy sight as you need to let the layers of the cornea join properly as well as the edges of the disc.

As far as make up goes, dare I admit this! Well this is going back to my university days when I did some daft things for charity, make up was sometimes used and never a problem around the eyes! My grafts are 16 years old and I have not done the stupid dressing up style of fund raising. Mind you my daughter is into face painting and wants the whole family to have their face done so who knows.

Hello Pauline

Just thought I would post and see how you were doing.
It will be 6 months nearly for you now since your graft, hope everything is ok.

Best wishes for Christmas

Susan
