I think that this is the reason that some people use a shaving mirror, flat on the surface over which they are handling their lens. Rather than look at their finger, they look at their reflection.
I do the opposite. I look at the lens, so my focal point is slightly before (rather than beyond) my finger.

Lynn I thought the same thing about pushing the lens across the eye :o I've had way too much abrasions and ulcers which is annoying with having to leave the lens out. I just put my lens directly onto the cornea and it sits nicely. I have never used a mirror to place the lens, you do get used to it with practice. This is a really good thing to learn as you can always get stuck without a mirror!
