Hybrid contact lenses

Postby simon_29 » Thu 07 Jul 2011 2:07 pm

Hi All

I have recently switched to hybrid lenses after previously wearing RGP's for 3 years. The main reason for the switch is that i was constantly getting dirt/grit behind the lens forcing me to have to remove the lens ASAP. Usually this resulted in a scratched cornea, which is quite sore. This was occurring on a daily basis

I have been wearing SynergEyes hybrid lenses now for a week and the vision is on par with my RGP's, comfort is very good and best of all I do not get any dirt behind the lenses. So far so good. They can be tricky to remove though. I am working on my technique.

Let me know if anyone wants some more info

Cheers
Simon

Simon

Thanks for this. I know that others have benefited greatly from hybrids, and we look forward to following your own experience.

All the best

Hi Simon

I have been wearing 'So2Clear Lenses' for the past two years now. I have got on ok with them, but I have just not been able to get the wearing time up on them! My lenses have now got old and scratched, so my optometrist has said he is going to fit me with the new SynergEyes Hybrid Lenses. Could you tell me your full experience of them as I would like to get as much information as I can before I have my first fitting in September!

Take Care,

Jennie x

Hi Jennie,

how long was your wearing time with the So2Clear lenses?
Do you had to take them out and lubricate them?

Best regards

Andi

Hi Jennie

Its been around 2 weeks now wearing the hybrid lenses. I have not had any issues at all so far. The main benefit for me as I said in my initial post has been the lack of dirt and dust behind the lens. This is the reason why I chose to switch from the standard rgp lenses as i was forever having to take the lenses out and clean them. Often i would not be able to put the lens back in due to a scratched eye caused by the dirt. I don't have this issue with the hybrid lenses due to the extra material (soft part) covering more of the eye.

In terms of general comfort, they are a lot better for me, i am able to wear them all day at work (looking at a PC + air conditioning) and wear them until maybe 8 or 9 pm. This is longer than with my RPG's.

Additionally i have found that, due to the soft part of the lens, the hard part tends to stay in the correct position more of the time, there is less slippage. This obviously means better vision for longer.

The only negative is that with these lenses, once taken out my vision takes a lot longer to return to normal levels, therefore my vision with glasses is impacted for a few hours. With RGP's my vision was with glasses was actually improved once i had removed them.

One final note. I'm told by my eye doctor that a new and improved version of these SynergEyes Hybrid Lenses that allow more Oxygen to the eye will be available from around October. This is of particular interest to me as I suffer from red / dry eyes due to the office / air conditioned environment.

Let me know if you have any more Q's

Simon

Dear Andi

With the So2Clear Lenses, I have good days and bad ones! On my good days I can wear them for about 9 hours, but if I do that I cannot wear them again for a few days because my eyes are so sore. :x Anyway, normally it is around 5-6 hours a day! I don't take the lenses our ro lubricate them because, if I do my eyes are too sore to put them back in! My KC is very advanced, so do not be put off my experiences!

Take Care,

Jennie x

Hi Simon

Thanks for your detailed description of your experience! I am really looking forward to trying the new lenses out and I hope, finally that my eyes will take to them! If I have anymore questions, I know who to ask! :D

All the best,

This must be quick I am supposed to be turning this off.

Synergeyes ClearKone Got it November previous softperm.

Now feel I have a degree in putting it in (use thumb and first two fingers to Balance use other hand to hold lashes out of way with thumb and forefinger.

Use just correct amount of pressure to put it in otherwise vision is pants my test is 0 on bathroom scales look down is it clear yes big tick No take it out and reinsert..

Nudge to remove if tricky squirt saline into eye.

If it gets smudged in day (hayfever or crying) remove clean in palm of hand with saline and Q tip and pop into case for a few mins then reinsert.

When you remove at night put in palm of hand and use Eye Crystal or similar and Q-tip to run twirling qtip in centre (gently). Rinse with saline then pop in case with saline and brush teeth.

Then either empty Saline and fill with Aosept for overnight soaking or more often than not go to bed and as you drop off realise you missed this step and go back and do it tripping over cat who thinks its morning already - result brilliant comfort and vision.

Before I sorted this regime I didnt clean every night and I just put in and if it went in thought it was fine result rubbish vision.

Hi Simon, I see from the Forum you are from Prague.
I would like to know if you could recommend me a shop where I can purchase SynergEyes hybrid lenses in Prague or Brno.
Thanks for your time.
Andrew
