I have not long been diagnosed with Keratonus. I am waiting for my contacts to arrive but I'm worried about the comfort of them.
I have tried trial contacts which felt like the glass contact was cutting the insdie of my eyelids. Will I get used to this over time?
Please let me know your experiences if you have any similar.

Welcome to the forum.
You are quite correct that contact lenses may be uncomfortable at first. After all, it is not natural to put something in your eye. It does take time to build up the lens wear. Most practitioners recomend starting at 1 or 2 hours and building up the wera by about an hour per day. Some say once you are able to wera lenses for 8 hours, do so for a week before trying 9 hours etc.
With KC, many report sensitive eyes which is why it does take time.
Make a list of all your questions and make sure the consultant answers them. They will guide you through putting them in, removing them and cleaning the lenses. Most practices will not let you take your lenses home until you demonstrate you can put them in and out OK. The hospital I go to have dedicated nurses for this and they are really helpful and patient.
Good luck.

It has taken me a year and half almost to get somewhere near with mine and now i'm on scleral lenses. You may find RGP's take a bit longer to get used to than soft lenses but that's normal as gareth mentioned it's not natural to have something in your eye. Your body tries to get rid of it by teary eyes and blinking a lot. But that will settle down with wear it depends how sensitive your eyes are. I found mine took a while cos' my eyes rejected every cleaning solution they gave me, and most lenses as well. But i know people take to them really quickly and you may be one of them. Best of british.

Hello specco
good to be able to say hi.
Each of us has a different experience with contact lenses, but as you can see from the discussion forum, there are many different sorts that you can try. Some of the folk here are very comfortable with RGP corneal lenses, others use kerasoft, others yet use haptics, and so on.
Don't give up. The right lens for you might well be then next one you try!
