Contact Lens Left/Right Confusion

Hi,

I've just joined this board to ask for help as I mixed up my contact lenses a while ago, and I can't remember which one is for which eye.

I'm not sure if all rigid lens are designed the same but I got my contact lenses from an NHS hospital in Leeds and is Grey and the other is Blue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi and welcome

Unless your eyes have the curvature and need the same corrective power (unlikely if you have had KC for a while) then the lenses will be different
I have not checked mine recently (no need as they are so different I know straight away if i put them in the wrong eye) but they were marked with an L & R on them in the past You will need a magnifying glass ( and possibly a lens in while you use it)

Hi George,

I agree with Ian that with keratoconus your lenses are quite likely to be very different. And just because they are different doesn't mean your eyes can't see with them! At one time my right eye saw better with the left lens but although I could see with it the fitting wasn't a good one.

As your lenses are different colours they may well not have additional markings so you need to know which colour is for which eye. If I were you I would contact your hospital contact lens ordering department, as the colour of the lenses will be part of your prescription, and they should be able to tell you which is which.

Hi George

Its common practice to supply grey for Right eye and blue for Left. The way to remember is there's letter R in "grey", L in "blue" ie gRey for RE, bLue for LE.
Hope this helps

The lab making the lenses would supply whatever tint your practitioner has asked for whether it is Rose K or one of many other keratoconus designs. All I am saying is that normal convention in the industry is grey for RE, blue for LE, obviously best to check with your practitioner if in doubt.

i dont know if it helps, but i have a Grey lens in my Right eye.

So this fits in with the above.

Regards,

Simon.

I should point out that grey tint doesnt necessarily mean the lens is for Right eye! Both lenses could have been ordered grey or blue, but if one is grey and the other blue, it'd be reasonable to expect the grey to be for RE and blue for the LE.

No help here I can however brag that when I had the same lenses in both eyes I had days when I got them back to front but the best day was when I was a little hungover put both lenses in one eye thought god that doesnt feel right and then couldnt find my other lens which I wanted to put in to check why it didnt feel right.
