Kerasoft Problems

Postby Robin1980 » Sun 24 Oct 2010 9:58 pm

Hi, I have had KC for 22 years and i have had grafts in both eyes over 5 years ago.

Unfortunately in the last 2 years i have had several rejection episodes in each eye.Everything is ok now but due to the sheer amount of steroid eye drops i used, my corneas have warped. So that i dont have to have another operation, my specialist recommended i try kerasoft lenses. I had a trial fitting which was succesful.the lenses were so comfy, so they have made some proper lenses up for me. I picked them up last week and i just cant get used to them. The vision is great but they just arent comforatable.
I get between 1-3 hours of reasonable comfort but then after that they start irritating me. My right eye is alot worse than my left, it feels like the lens has completely dried out and i can see the halo effect. I havent bothered wearing them today as my eyes are still sore from yesterday. Its so frustrating that the trial fitting is with really thin lenses and then when they come back made up there several times thicker. If the trial lenses were thick, i would have realised they werent comfortable and would have saved myself the £400+.

Can you recommend any eye drops to keep my eyes moist, as i feel this could be one of the problems. I used to wear daily contact lenses all the time and never had any trouble but i have a lip on my right graft which stops daily ones from sitting correctly.

Thanks for any help/ advice you can give.

Hello Robin and welcome to the forum. Hopefully people who know more about Kerasofts will come along with some ideas for you.

hi Robin,
I am afraid i do not know anything about Kerasofts but i can say that the 'Celluvisc' single use drops last ALOT longer than the others as it is a gel rather than a liquid....
i hope you get some other advise too....

Clinitas Soothe can be used with contact lenses for dry eyes. Try putting it in the lens before you insert them.(Beware some dry eye products cannot be used while wearing lenses as they could cause damage, especially the ones with preservatives in them)This helped me wear GP lenses for longer the other day.
I have tried 2 different types of kerasoft lenses. They didn't work for me and it was difficult to get a repeat prescription the same as I'd had before.Different lenses work for different people.

Hi Robin,

There may be many reasons why they are uncomfortable. The first thing to do is to check back with your practitioner so he/she can see what is happening. It may well be a dry eye issue, on the other hand it may be something else related to fit.
