hello everyone

Postby Sheila_e » Mon 20 Sep 2010 6:55 pm

Hello
I have just found this site, how good it is to found people who understand it issuses with KC. I had my first graft in my left eye 23 years ago after going through the glasses, contact lenes and piggy backing the lenes, than the cornea split so had the graft ,have just had it replaced with a second full thickness graft on the 8/9 due to the edges becoming very thin and unstable.
So I am in the slow recovery period. Just throught I'd say hello

Sheila :P

Hello Sheila and welcome!
All the best with the recovery period. At least second time around, you know more or less what to expect. I hope all goes well. How is the vision in your other eye? Has the KC in that one stayed mild?

Thank you for the welcome. My vision in my right eye is very good with only a small prescribsion (am also dyslixic sorry please excuse the spelling) in my glasses and thats proberly due to age!
I hope I can offer some support to those new to KC it can be a confusing time.

unfortunatly it looks like this graft is not going to be so stright forward had a following up appointment at the hospital today and its seems that it may have strated to reject, so have had IV steriod followed with two weeks oral steriods 40mg alongside the ususal eye drops. This part of KC is new to me as the first one went without any real problems so I have no idea what to expect. The consaltant did say they has caught the process early. So its lots of posstive thinking for me. :!:

All the very best, Sheila. The vast majority of rejection episodes are reversed and the earlier they're caught the better. So I hope this is just a very temporary setback.

Had a hospital appointment today and the good news is the cornea is now much thinner and things are getting back on track.Tge rejection process seemsto have been stopped :) I have had my tear ducks plugged again to try and help the dry eye. Sight still not good only seeing a misty white haze out of the left eye, but am told this should improve. The right eye is still good.

That is good news. I'm glad all the positive thinking worked! In terms of vision, it's still very early days, so that's a question of patience. The important thing is that the rejection has been stopped.
All the best
Anne

Just when I throught thinks were going the right way I have just had a another follow up appointment and the rejection process has started again, the corneal is thicker than last week and the pressure has increased. So have now had all my tear ducts plugged and am on hourly dexamethasone throughout the day.

I have no idea what to expect next any advice would be greatfully recieved
Thank you
Sheila
